Real Estate Investment Banking Analyst

Legg Mason Real Estate Investors is seeking highly-motivated college graduates to join our Investment Originations Team. LMREI is an industry leading private equity real estate fund with over $2 billion in assets under management. We offer real estate investment banking services, providing financing at all levels of the capital stack, including structured debt and equity products. Our focus is on value-add commercial real estate assets located in primary and secondary markets throughout the United States and Canada. LMREI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Legg Mason, Inc. Opportunities are available to join the firm as a Real Estate Investment Banking Analyst. An Analyst position offers an opportunity to excel in a fast paced, collegial environment while gaining an understanding of commercial real estate finance in the United States. We have developed a highly personalized, flexible approach to our Analyst Program, designed to provide the skills necessary for a long-term career in real estate investment. Our goal is to help our Analysts advance by providing them with significant responsibility and diverse experiences. Most assignments involve some form of financial analysis, including those necessary for debt and equity financings, securitizations, property analysis, asset management, and valuations.

The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the origination, financial underwriting, and closing of commercial real estate investments ranging from $10 million to over $100 million. Analyst responsibilities include:

• Real estate underwriting and deal analysis
• Investment due diligence, property inspections, and market research
• Creation and delivery of investment committee presentations
• New business negotiation and transaction execution
• Financial reporting and the creation of reports for senior management, partners, investors, and rating agencies (including S&P and Moody’s)

Analysts receive training through direct participation on deal teams and are mentored on a daily basis by Legg Mason’s experts in all areas of the real estate field. As part of their ongoing activities, Analysts work with individuals at all levels within the firm, attend investment committee presentations, and travel to client meetings and property tours throughout the United States. As Analysts mature, their responsibilities and project assignments expand significantly.

While no specific major or course of study is required for the Analyst position, a specific interest in the business and finance of real estate is a must. Exceptional analytical and communication skills, leadership traits, diligence, and the willingness and capability to function efficiently under significant deadline pressure are essential.
